Gladys Mae Deblitz (nee Pederson) was born March 14, 1919 in Vernon County, WI to Mathias and Betsy (Rudser) Pederson. She grew up on the family dairy and tobacco farm, attended the local one-room schoolhouse and then graduated from Viroqua High School in 1936.
